Please note that we are Brunswick Zebras Football Club, not Brunswick Juventus Football Club (ex-Moreland Zebras).
Brunswick Zebras FC has been a long time supporter of women’s and girl’s football going right back to the 1980s when Mercy College Coburg art teacher Noel Bruzzese started up a team at the club, largely featuring girls from his school.
The team was very successful, rising to the Victorian Women’s Premier League and nurturing players who went to to play at national and international level, including Matildas Melissa Barbieri, Louisa Bisby and Nicky Leitch. Barbieri played 86 matches for Australia, and was made captain of the national team in 2010.
Former Zebras players Gabby Angelucci and Daniella Di Giammarco also played for Victoria Vision in the original National Women’s Soccer League. In addition, former Zebra Caitlin Friend represented her country at both U17 and U20 level.
