Brunswick Zebras Mission Statement
The Zebras’ membership is drawn largely from the inner Melbourne suburbs of Melbourne. We are completing a census of members, which we will forward once it is completed. The players are local, predominately from Fitzroy, Northcote, Brunswick and Coburg. While we enjoy the club’s rich Italian heritage, our membership nowadays is a reflection of Australian society, with players, coaches, club officials and supporters from extraordinarily diverse cultural backgrounds and every strata of society.
The club’s progressive approach of ensuring that everyone who joins the club is given the chance of playing, has obviously struck a chord with the broader community and the Brunswick Zebras Football Club’s membership has grown from 380 registered players and 19 teams in 2005 season to over 500 players and 28 teams in 2018 including 180 children who participated in the under 8 year old Saturday Skills Program program. There are 7 female teams and they make up 25% of the players. We are intending to introduce two a new Mini Roo Under 10 team for girls in 2018 and aim to have 30% female players in 2019. We currently have three women’s teams. There is also a program targeted to refugee children and Iranian young adults assisting them to afford to play football
History of the Zebras
The Brunswick Zebras Football Club evolved from the legendary Melbourne Juventus Soccer Club, formed by post-war Italian immigrants in 1947. In 1996, as Australian soccer was putting aside its old European allegiances and forging a new Australian identity, the Juventus Juniors took a major step forward and became the Brunswick Zebras.
Every player, regardless of their ability, realises their potential.
Brunswick Zebras F.C. is a community based sporting club located in Melbourne’s inner suburbs that caters for players, members and coaches regardless of gender, background or ability. Our aim is to encourage and develop players so that they realise their full potential, enjoy the game, and learn how to contribute and become valuable team members.
